Getting Rad With VentureWeb's DH Race

As many will know, each of the Ventureweb team is as passionate about their extra curricular activities as their day to day tasks in the studio. Whether climbing, hiking, skiing, or in the case of this post, mountain biking, we live in Squamish moving throughout the Sea To Sky corridor like a colony of ants in pursuit of checking the next goal off our bucket list, the next adrenaline rush being gained and in general, to have a great time in the outdoors.
With numerous members of the team participating in mountain biking, whether on a small scale or a fanatical one, it is a natural progression that we give back to the biking community of Squamish. Aside from team members like Olly and myself continually maintaining trails in the area, (check out Powersmart after the weekends re-work), we jump at the opportunity to sponsor the local SORCA races.
This past week Ventureweb sponsored it's first SORCA downhill race and what a race it was! The trail for this event was Value Added, located around the back of Alice Lake. Value Added has never seen a downhill event, which is surprising given its great variety of high speed flow, technical rock, and great corners. The trail was bone dry and dusty—just how Ozzies like myself like it—with racers having a great time down to the finish, grinning like school-boy pranksters in the finish area. The races ending location resulted in riders having options of other trails to ride out to the after party from. I decided to take a rip down Icy Hole Of Death, while others headed out via Gouranga or Lavacide, with some opting to just cruise the Mashiter out of the woods.
The greatest part of sponsoring the local twoonie events is the after party. We got in touch with our local BBQ legend, Cliff Miller, and it was game on for a great feast. Cliff put together one of his famous chillies, which kept everyone happy and quenched appetites quickly. The social ride gang met up with everyone shortly after the party got started and we proceeded to completely finish the massive pot of chilli—the first time one of Cliffs chilli's has been finished in recent memory—it's obvious everyone had an appetite from racing! The party went on till dark with everyone having a great time and many very thankful for the festivities.
A big thanks to all of the racers and volunteers for helping run such a smooth race and of course, Cliff, for filling all the hungry bellies with another great feast. For photos of the event check out the set on flickr and thanks to Don, Anna & Steve for the shots.
Join us for Ventureweb's second Twoonie event of 2010, our August XC race—be prepared for a wicked course!
