Despite a less-than-legendary season in Whistler earlier this year, snow quality finally picked up in March and April, just in time for the more-than-legendary end of season festival, the TELUS World Ski & Snowboard Festival. It's only half-way through the 10-day festival with plenty more still to come, and the village has been PACKED.
Why does this belong on VentureWeb's blog you ask? All sorts of reasons. For one, it's about skiing, which we'd be doing every day if we weren't building websites.
But beyond that, it's an awesome showcase of how an event, campaign, or contest can fill in the white space. It was a dismal season, its now after Easter, its hot in Vancouver, and most people have forgotten what winter and skiing are - yet there's an epic 10-day festival in Whistler, and the place is buzzing more so than it has all season. Not only does it bring skiers and riders to the resort for 10 days, but it brings hordes of media and pro athletes who then spread the good Whistler vibe around the planet, and of course, on the web.
Same goes for websites. They're not as fun as ski seasons, but they definitely all have traffic 'white spaces' either weekly or seasonally, just askin' to be filled with a contest, promotion, or campaign push.
