Calling All Backcountry Artists
Back for its 2nd year in 2010, the G3 Skigraphiks contest invited the creative community to submit their designs for a new top sheet on a G3 ski. One winner was chosen for each of three contest periods run consecutively from mid-January through mid-April. The folks at G3 wanted to drive traffic to their main site, and had reservations about detouring any referrals directly to the SkiGraphiks site. However, after a little encouragement, the VentureWeb team convinced G3 to keep referrals from Facebook to SkiGraphiks as direct as possible and put our online marketing skills to the test to ensure main social site traffic increased as well.

Partnering with G3 to host the contest this time around, the digital marketing team at VentureWeb was stoked to be part of a contest that inspires creativity and passion in the ski industry. Having already designed and built the www.genuineguidegear.com website, VentureWeb enhanced this year’s SkiGraphiks site by redesigning it to complement the main site, building in functionality that simplified design entry through a form and templated upload, and then fully integrating social media to make the contest more engaging for everyone. Site visitors were able to review, comment on and rate individual entries, ultimately influencing the final judging.
And the Winners Are....
Three talented designers are now proud owners of their own custom-made G3 skis. But the real winners are G3 themselves. Over the 3-month contest period, the Skigraphiks site received over 16,000 unique visitors, with an average time on site of over 4 minutes. Referring sites had consistently been the top source of traffic in previous years around 60+% but Facebook took over as the number one referral source, providing the site with over 3,200 site visits. Socialized strategy was indeed paying dividends. Meanwhile the G3 main site received over 500 unique page visits referred by the www.G3 Skigraphiks.com web site.
