The Wickaninnish Inn

An enduring partnership with one of Canada’s most storied resort properties

Visit Website

The Wickaninnish Inn is an iconic resort property situated on the remote west coast of British Columbia’s Vancouver Island. It uniquely combines luxury and an intimate connection with its natural setting. VentureWeb has been ‘The Wick's’ digital agency since 2011.

Objectives:

  • Develop a digital experience with a focus on visual storytelling
  • Make it easy for users to distinguish between the property's two unique buildings
  • Showcase the incredible breadth of experiences available to them in Tofino, beyond the resort
  • Drive brand awareness and ultimately conversion

Background

VentureWeb has been partnered with the Wick since 2011. In 2012 we designed and launched the Wickaninnish Inn’s first CMS driven website. We supported the website with enhancements, maintenance and updates in the years following. With burgeoning mobile device adoption and well over 8 years of service it was time for an overhaul to better serve the needs of their guests.

The all new Wick site, built on Processwire (shared by The Pointe, the property’s restaurant), was launched in the summer of 2020.

It's in the details

User experience, on both mobile and desktop, was the lightning rod that created the impetus for the design of the new website. Following the Wick’s relentless focus on micro details to enhance the guest experience, the design employs a highly inspirational theme with subtle flourishes that elevate the overall website aesthetic. All of the elements of the website, from the typography, colours and the overall user interface, were designed to sit quietly on the page to complement the Inn’s understated elegance and sophistication.

Images are inspirational but ultimately bookings are what's required

All of the inspiring copy, interactive elements and beautiful photos would be for nought if the booking experience didn't reflect the experience of the Inn. One of the primary roles of the website is to motivate a users to inquire and ultimately book an experience at the Wick. Careful attention was paid to integrate the Maestro booking platform including a custom booking widget and deep links to pass booking parameters through to the booking process to ensure a frictionless experience.

Conversion without the hard sell

Ultimately, the job of the website is to encourage users to book a stay at the Wick. Rather than inundating the user with that message, we let the content speak for itself and strategically placed opportunities for conversion to meet the user in their journey to booking.

“The VentureWeb team brought to the table their experience and deep understanding of the luxury resort space. Their invaluable insights helped make the launch of our new website a massive success.”
